Okay people, so I have this novel sitting around that I started last year, and I’ve done basically nothing with it since last November. I took it with me to Arizona this year hoping to get some high-quality writing done, but let’s face it: I’ve got nothin’. I did some research (in the form of mine and Becca’s adventure to Jerome) and some editing, but that’s about it.
Currently, I’m sitting at 17,988 words. I’ve read quite a few different opinions about the length of a novel. I’ve heard anywhere between 60,000 and 90,000 words. If I write 50,000 this November, I’ll be in the prime place to start editing and revising (which I’ll need a TON of). My stuff right now is literally crap.
So here’s the basic premise of the plot:
17 year old Rebecca is forced to move from her beloved hometown of Salem, MA to Sedona, AZ after her mom accepts a job at the local university. When her photography class visits the local former copper mine-turned ghost town, she catches some very interesting images on film. With the help of the main male character (her possible love interest), she searches for the identity of the mysterious stranger on film, all while battling some inner demons she’s facing and a past that comes back to haunt her (no pun intended).
What do you think? Too cliche? Too cheesy? If you saw this, what questions would you have for me as an author? I’m really interested to know.
Just for some added fun, here’s a picture of the spot that Rebecca catches the ghost on film:

This was taken in July when I went to visit.
