Lost & Found
by Jacqueline Sheehan
My rating: B+
I decided to start rating my book reviews with a letter grade instead of stars. I’m a teacher…it fits.
Rocky is struggling to deal with the loss of her husband. She decides to leave her middle class life as a psychologist behind and escape to the island where she remembers visiting as a child. She packs up her few belongings and sets out on a journey to leave her painful past behind. She takes a job as the island animal warden, something that she has no experience doing. She rents a summer cottage and vows to leave her psychologist persona behind.
Rocky encounters a myriad of characters that help her along the way to her new life. One of those happens to be a four-legged hero by the name of Lloyd. Rocky and Lloyd come into each other’s lives by surprise, but they fight to stay with one another because of love.
I had a little bit of a hard time getting into this book, but it ended up being a satisfying read. The characters were well developed and the author did a good job of weaving together the stories of so many unusual and seemingly unconnected people. This wasn’t the typical weepy story that usually comes with a dog on the cover. Instead, it was more a story of power and rebirth; a story of people helping each other find their way.
