The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
My rating: ***
In book 2f the Percy Jackson series, we meet up with Percy at a new school. Once again, things aren’t going so well for Percy in the academic department. Percy and his friend, Tyson, are ambushed in gym one day by a group of fire-breathing monsters. Percy realizes that something is wrong and that his friend Tyson may be more than just your average boy. Upon returning to Camp Half-Blood, Percy learns that things are not well in the world of the Olympians. Thalia’s tree has been poisoned, strange things are happening, and everyone is acting very strange. Once again, Percy and his friends set out on a dangerous quest to save the world from Olympian evil and to try to save the camp.
I wasn’t as impressed with the second Percy Jackson book as I was with the first. In the first, we are really pulled in to the world of Greek mythology and we get to know Percy rather well. The Sea of Monsters is lacking in the character development and action that the first book had. I still very much enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the rest of the series. I just hope book 3 is a little more action-packed.
By the way…I was thinking about changing my ratings from a star system (***) to a grade system (like B+). Any thoughts on this?

This is the next series on my list. Thanks for the review!
